ACTIVITY VOLUNTEERS - MENTAL HEALTH INPATIENT WARDS, GOODMAYES, ILFORD, ESSEX

We are looking for a number of people to assist as Activity volunteers with a keen interest in Mental Health in our inpatient wards at Goodmayes, Ilford, Essex. People with lived experience or care for people with Mental Health issues are especially welcome to apply.

There are Various wards which range from Low/High and PICU security settings.

In order to enhance services and service user experience we are hoping to recruit volunteers with specific skills areas (e.g. art, music, gardening, creative writing, teaching) to assist in facilitating the group programme on the ward. Providing activities which are of interest to our service users and or helps build their skills will aid their recovery. Volunteering in this role would include the following tasks:

  • It is hoped that the volunteer will be able to take a lead on planning and facilitating the sessions with support of the ward staff
  • The volunteer will support ward staff in the preparation, delivery and organisation of the groups.
  • Volunteers are expected to encourage service users to join in the activities.

Specialist Activity Support Volunteers need to be:

  • Friendly, approachable, patient and non-judgmental
  • Reliable and committed to regular sessions
  • Sociable with a friendly, easy going personality who enjoys meeting new people
  • Presentable, clean and tidy in appearance.
  • Have a specific skill area e.g. gardening, pottery, creative writing, music.

Please note: due to the nature of our service, staff can occasionally be subject to verbal and physical aggression or threats.



All volunteers will need to also undertake half day breakaway training for this role.
