Job Description

Assistant Psychologist - NELFT Eating Disorder Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the HIVE Team (Children’s and Young People’s Intensive Community Pathway) within The Eating Disorder Service, based at Orchards Health Centre.

The Eating Disorder service provides the latest in evidence based NICE compliant psychological interventions to clients and their families with an Eating Disorder. Unlike many other mental health services we offer specialist assessment and treatment across the life span from age 8yrs with no upper age limit. The team's multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of individuals with an eating disorder is a real strength.

We welcome applications from psychology graduates who would like to develop their knowledge and skills and have a passion for working with people with eating disorders.

The successful applicant will be part of the NELFT HIVE eating disorder pathway with strong links with the core CAMHS eating disorder team. We are seeking an individual with the knowledge and skills to work as part of a multi-professional team and be innovative in their approach to supporting this client group. The role includes clinical, research and audit aspects.

The Role

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the HIVE treatment model. This 6 to 8-week programme is designed to provide intensive, needs-led support to young people and their families, preventing hospital admissions and promoting eating disorder recovery. Working closely with senior clinicians and the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of psychological interventions, assessments, and treatment plans, ensuring that care is tailored to the individual needs of each young person and their family.

  • Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments under the supervision of senior clinicians, including the use of self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations, and interviews with clients and their families.
  • Assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans, involving psychological treatments and management strategies, under the guidance of senior clinicians and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage and analyse data from an ongoing programme of treatment outcome audits, contributing to the production of reports for the team and commissioners.

The successful postholder will have:
A degree in Psychology, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
Experience of working with people with mental health problems
Specific interest in working with clients with eating disorders
Strong analytical skills and experience managing and interpreting data, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.

Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information about this role and working at North East London NHS Foundation Trust. We encourage you to refer to this when completing your application.
