An exciting opportunity has arisen for three Ward Manager positions within the male and female acute inpatient services at Goodmayes Hospital, covering Monet, Kahlo, and Knight Wards.

The successful post holder will lead the delivery of contemporary, evidence-based nursing interventions while promoting a positive and inclusive culture aligned with the Trust’s core values.

The candidate will play a pivotal role in the effective and efficient management of resources across the Acute Inpatient Wards, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care that upholds best practice, equality, diversity, patient rights, and the spiritual needs of service users, in line with current legislation and professional standards.

As a professional role model, the post holder will demonstrate the organisation’s values in everyday practice while fostering strong communication and collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities will include leading the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, alongside the day-to-day operational management of the ward. This will involve staff supervision and development, effective resource management, service improvement and modernisation, as well as the coordination of patient referrals and assessments.

The ideal candidate will be a dedicated Registered Mental Health Nurse with a minimum of two years’ experience at Band 6 level within an acute inpatient setting. They will have specialist knowledge and experience in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs and behaviours that challenge services, alongside strong skills in risk assessment and the implementation of effective risk management strategies within inpatient mental health environments.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, make timely and informed managerial decisions, and consistently work within established care pathways. Strong IT skills are essential for this role.

Flexibility, adaptability, and a supportive approach are also essential, including the willingness to take responsibility for the management and development of new services as required.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).


High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).
