An exciting opportunity has arisen for one healthcare assistants to join the Community Respiratory Team based at Jane Atkinson Health and Wellbeing Centre in Walthamstow London E17.

We are looking to recruit one part time (22.5Hres) healthcare assistant to work in this busy fast paced service and require keen and enthusiastic individual’s to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team.

You will work under the direct supervision of experienced nurses, in a supportive role, in both nurses led clinics and caring for people in their own homes, delivering quality care.

The successful applicant must be flexible, a good team worker, used to working under pressure, have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and other members of the MDT.

The successful applicant will have a valued, challenging, and rewarding role within the team and will benefit from the support of a friendly hard working Integrated Community Team consisting of Nurses and therapists as well as other senior HCAs.

  • Nebuliser therapy
  • Administration of Prescribed medicines
  • Spirometry
  • Urine and Sputum Sampling
  • Phlebotomy
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Smoking Cessation advice, level 2
  • Monitoring of oxygen use
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Trust policies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


You will be expected to carry out clinical appointments within the Respiratory Service under the direction of the registered nurse. You will also be expected to carry out patient observation in clinical setting and in their homes. Perform spirometry testing in clinic. Assist patients with checking and using inhalers correctly. Assist with clerical and administrative tasks like booking appointments, tracking equipment.

The successful applicant must be flexible, a good team worker, used to working under pressure, have excellent interpersonal and IT skills and be able to communicate effectively with patients, carer, and other members of the MDT. The successful applicant would also need to hold an NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification in health and social care .

We are interested in hearing from experienced healthcare assistants with proven clinical and communication skills to work as part of our friendly, supportive team. Previous experience in a community setting in the NHS is highly desirable but not essential.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to utilise a range of skills and experience gained in clinical practice to assist the registered clinician to undertake comprehensive and holistic assessments.


Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
